Doing a happy dance!!!!

Good morning friends .It is a beautiful morning in my world, the sun is shining and the birds are singing . I am  one happy primitive chickadee this morning. I received the my winnings from Margie over at Hungry Hook Primitives !!! I am amazed at the size and beauty of the rug. While the pics of it are beautiful I have to say they do not do justice to it ! Up close this thing is magnificent!I have it placed on the back of my couch, in the living room, till I find the perfect spot for it .Think I will be using it as a wall hanging .This is my first hooked rug and yes I am excited to no end.LOL! I am so honored to have one of Margie's rugs in my home.Thank you sweetie for hosting such a wonderful giveaway !The rug is a wonderful gift but by far the biggest treasure that I have received is the friendship I have began with Margie. She is a beautifully gifted lady with a heart of gold ! If you haven't been over to her blog, then please check her out here : http://hungryhookprimitives.blogspot.com I promise you will not be disappointed!

Here are a few pics of my winnings.

Now for a closer look:

Now for an even  closer look :

Sorry but I told you I was excited !Isn't it  gorgeous ? LOVE it !

Well this week has flown by in a hurry.I have been running around like a chicken missing it's head all week .I have a swap to finish up and get in the mail on Friday .Yikes that is tomorrow ! Been trying to catch up on a few things early in the week as hubby starts his vacation on Friday .Nothing exciting planned ,probably just stay at home and try to get some things finished.I did manage to mow Momma's yard on Monday and break the riding mower. If it can  break it will happen while I am using it ,never hubby ! I broke the part that holds the deck to the mower still not sure how it happened just that I did it.LOL!

So if I disappear for a few days you all will know that I am with  hubby .LOL!  I may loose my mind . Seriously I love him to pieces but he tends to get on the nerves after 5 or 6   days .He will be home for 10 days so I should have been resting up this week .I am just joking it will be nice to have him home after all my honey do list is a bit long. Well I guess I better say so long for now.Hope you all have a great  day ! Hugs,Jen

New Beginnings and a New Look

Evening blessings to all ! First off I want to thank my son for making my new header and email button .Love them son! I have always had a thing for mice .I think they are the cutest things till they invade my home. Then lets just say I have a different thought on the matter. I do admit that if I find one in my feed barrels, at the barn, that I catch it and set it free.LOL !

I have had a few baby chicks to hatch this week and wanted to share a few pics with you .I hate  to keep them caged but it is necessary for their safety .

This is a bantam Buff Cochin hen .She hatched only a few of the chicks.I have other hens that are setting on eggs and as they hatch I give the babies to this hen .She is a wonderful  mom.

Aren't they cute little balls of fluff ? Oh yeah, the duck will grow up just fine .I promise it will not have identity issues.LOL! By the way ,it is a call duck.

Help mom ! I don't really want my picture taken !Seriously they were trying to get away from the camera.

Baby chicks are just like potato chips ,you can't stop at one !

Chow time! This is just a temporary feeder till they get a little bigger in size.

Now if you want to get a glass of tea or a bathroom break  ,I will wait.
Okay are you still  with me ?

These babies are being raised with a standard size Cochin hen .The babies are a mix of bantams and standard size chickens.I will let  them room together till the standard size becomes to big and  a hazard to the bantams .
She only has six or seven babies and one call duck.

Now I hope that I haven't bored you to sleep yet.I have one more baby to share. It is Casper my baby Flemish Giant .He is around 4 months old and has a lot of growing to do yet.

This a pic of him and a standard sized Cochin roo. Sorry about the blurriness. The roo is actually bigger than he looks here.

Last picture I promise . LOL!
I hope that you have enjoyed my little tour of  a few of my babies .It has been a lovely day here in Kentucky. I wish you all a wonderful weekend .Hugs,Jen

Happy Birthday to Hubby !

Warning >slightly picture heavy !

Today is my hubby's birthday and I want to wish him the best day possible .I will be making him his favorite meal of pinto beans, cornbread and fried potatoes. Not my favorite ,but it is his birthday. LOL!  He has work today so we will be doing something together over the weekend. We haven't decided on a game plan yet ,but we  will  think of something I am sure. Just going for a drive together and enjoying the scenery is a favorite way of spending our time.  Happy Birthday  Sweetie!

I wanted something patriotic for my dining room but couldn't find anything that really suited me locally .So I decided to try  and make something . Here is what I have came up with so far.I am not crazy about it but it will do in a pinch.I used a few odds and ends that were lying around home to make it.I still need to add a flag to the center  .

And here it is sitting in my trencher on my dining room table.

I have also been admiring all the wonderful bonnets that you ladies have been displaying so I thought I'd try   making one.First I will tell you I can sew ,just not real well. I would love to be able to sew as well as my momma but it probably isn't ever gonna happen. Lets just say that a few prayers for patience and forgiveness for my cross tongue have been said the last  few days .LOL! I am going to share my endeavors with you so remember I am making the pattern out as I go and learning by my many mistakes. I have one bonnet that I used as a visual  reference but I sketched my own pattern. Why must I be so stubborn? It would be so much easier to buy a stupid pattern .But oh no,I have to declare that I will figure it out ,or run out of fabric trying to get it right.I have always been this way ,never one to bend once I set my mind to the task at hand .I have always thought that if someone else can do it then I should also be able to do it .My goodness but that has gotten me into trouble a time or two.LOL ! Good thing primitive doesn't have to be perfect.

A short style bonnet.

Here are the longer ones that I made the past few days. This is not where they will be staying .

I really like  the striped bonnet and I used it to make this display this morning.

Well I am sure that I have bored you long enough so I will sign off  for now .I just want to leave you with this thought ...Your dreams are only as good as your ambition .Blessings,Jen

Happy Father's Day and A Winner !

Just wanted to take a moment to wish a few of  the men in my life a very Happy Father's Day !  My dad ,although he has  passed ,is still a role model and guiding force in my life,so daddy this day is for you ! I love and miss you so much ! My sweet hubby ,a wonderful father in his own right  .He is always willing to give of himself and let his own wishes slide to be able to  provide for our son's needs and  wishes .Now at this point in our lives , he does it for our son and his girlfriend. He has stood in for my nieces and nephews when ever possible  to be a father figure for them when they needed him . A favorite memory of mine is when my son was about two years of age and we were killing time in a pet shop. My little son found a cute little puppy and with his heart on his sleeve turned to hubby and said mine..no,no honey the puppy has to stay here I told my son  . Son turns to daddy ...please with that little lip quivering .Need I go on with this story ? I was soon taking care of a two year old and a six week old puppy. That is just a small example why  he was and is a wonderful father .Not only did I marry an awesome man but I gained another great dad in my father in law.He  has served in the military and has worked hard all his life to provide for his family. My father in law has always been there when ever I needed the encouraging word or just a hug .He is gentle man with a huge heart.I love all three of these men with all my heart and wish them the  best day possible .I hope that all the fathers out there are blessed today .Let's not forget the fathers serving our country and be sure to send up a prayer for their safety .

Now for some fun !LOL! Are you ready for the big announcement?  Drum roll please ....

Here is my sweet hubby mixing the names up and trying to keep up with Nascar. LOL!

Now he has it !Whose name did he get ??? Do you wanna see ? Really ?? Well okay then here you go ...

Congratulations goes to Angela of Thru Nana's Window! Please pay Angela's wonderful blog a visit by going here:
http://thrunanaswindow.blogspot.com/ .She is a very sweet lady . Angela if you would please shoot me an email with your info and I will get this mailed out soon. Hugs to all of you that entered and don't worry there will be another giveaway in the works soon.

Well the day started with more storms ,cleared for a bit and now it looks like the storms are rolling back into town..Our internet was down again this morning so if I should disappear for a couple of days that will be the reason. Apparently lightening strikes have damaged some of the necessary equipment so our service could be spotty for a few days.

My thanks to all my followers ,new or newer  !It means so  much that you are willing to spend a bit of your day with me. I appreciate the helpful tips on drying yarrow. I have a gotten a couple different ways so I think I will try them both out. The thunder is starting so I better close this post  out.Remember to smile and  walk with God .With God  walking at our side we have every reason to smile.Blessing and hugs,Jen

Only a few hours left to enter .

Good evening to all !  I just wanted to remind everyone that my giveaway will be closing  at midnight (central) tonight. So if you haven't entered yet and would like to, you still have time. I will post the winner after church tomorrow. It has been a long day.  Our internet has been down all day  , and I have missed checking in with everyone . I  should have gotten much more accomplished today but it didn't happen.  LOL!

We had plans to work in the yard today but the weather just did not permit  it.We woke to thunder ,lighting, and a downpour  but I am not going to complain because we were in need of rain. It is my hope to make my yard larger to give more room for flowers and to have a small fish pond .Shhhhh! Don't tell hubby though about the pond. I would love to have a butterfly garden but need to research the best plants for it .An herb garden is  something I have wanted for years and it is in the planning stage.I have gotten some really great inspiration by visiting everyone's  blo

While visiting  some of your blogs I have noticed that you are decorating with dried yarrow.  I really like the way it looks in your displays . I have yarrow planted already and would love to dry it but to be honest I don't know how to get started .Could someone please give me a few tips? I would really appreciate any help.

Well I wish you all a wonderful evening and a peaceful rest till tomorrow. Blessings and hugs,Jen

Good Morning , a Reminder and a Win!

Good morning to all  out in blog land ! It is a nice cool start to the day here in my little area of the world. We better enjoy it while we can because the heat will be on  the way back in the next few days.Yesterday was a long and hard day but the family did really well. My MIL had a harder time than she was expecting  but she is okay .  We had to deal with thunder and rain on the way to the services but just when it was needed the Lord turned off the rain and the service was completed beautifully.Thank you Lord ! Thanks to all of you, for your warm comments and condolences !

Now I just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that my giveaway is still open till Saturday at midnight ( central time ).Just pop down to the Saturday post and leave me a comment  on that post.I wish each of you good luck and have to say that this has been fun for me.

My day, no my week was made yesterday  when  I received  a very sweet email from Margie of  Hungry Hook Primitives .She was congratulating me on winning her sheep hooked rug ! Yeah ! But I tell ya I am still in shock and so excited ! Gretchen says thanks Margie ...she now  has a few more gray hairs from me squealing so loudly. LOL! Margie's work is beautiful and I am honored that I will be having some of it in my home .Thank you so much for your generosity.

This is a picture of Gretchen .Thought  I would share because you are sure to be hearing more about her along the way.She has a problem with allergies and looses patches of hair but to me she is still beautiful and a huge part of my life. She is comical and so loving.

Well I am off to start my day and see what kind of trouble I manage to find .May you all have a great day ! Blessings and hugs,Jen

Wow ! You ladies rock !

Blessed is how I am feeling at the moment ! I  never in my wildest dreams thought I would have 50 let alone 52 followers so fast .Because who wants to read a backwards farm girl's tales, and see the things she gets into daily.Thank you from the bottom of my heart. The friends I am making by doing the blog  are just amazing. It has been so much fun to read all the wonderful comments left by all of you.I am truly in awe of all the help and encouragement that I have received.

Since reaching 50 followers happened so fast I would like to leave the giveaway open till midnight on Saturday and I will announce the winner on Sunday after I get home from church.Blogger has been having issues with comments (had a few problems myself yesterday )so maybe by leaving this open it will give others a chance too.

There is another reason for leaving it open as well...there has been a death in the family and we will be going for the viewing tonight and services tomorrow. With dealing with that and the poison ivy it will give me a chance to get the names all lined out .As an added bonus I will be giving two extra chances to the signs up that I had till I reached 50 followers after that goal was met I will add an extra chance to anyone that still signs up.I hope that everyone thinks this fair, but don't worry there will be more giveaways in the future.

A note about my husbands aunt that passed ,she was another blessing I have had in my life. While not real close she always had a smile and a kind word for me .I was always made feel welcome and I rejoice in the time I spent with her .She brightened one's day by just being around them .Aunt Kit had been sick for a while so I feel her passing was yet another blessing for she is at peace. Please keep her children and family in your prayers .Thanks so much !

If you would like to join in the giveaway feel free till Saturday at midnight (central time ) and if you are having comment issues just email me and I will add you to the list. Blessings and hugs ,Jen

Happy Saturday ...

Just wanted to say hello ! It is a beautiful day here ,a tad warm at 92 but the sun is shining and life is.good. Today is the last day of our local county fair  and hubby is helping out with the usual problems that can arise at these gatherings.

I am still miserable but grateful for the day that I have been given. I may be dealing with poison ivy and look like a chipmunk getting ready for a harsh winter but I am still blessed.Thank the Good Lord for Benadryl  !

I  have met many new and wonderful ladies since I have started my blog and all I can say is a big thank you. To show my appreciation I have decided  to have a giveaway once I reach 50 followers .I am sorry that I was not able to get the giveaway posted yesterday but I was having problems getting the stand glued in place.I finally took  it apart this morning and went a different route.

Here is what I am going to be giving away ....

It is a canteen gourd that I grew last year and painted this week  .This is a nice sized gourd measuring 12 inches  across and tall. The gourd is about 5 inches thick . I used a John Sliney design as inspiration and put my own spin on it.

The rules are as follows.
1.You must be a follower of this blog.
2.Leave a comment letting  me know you want to be entered on this post . If you don't have a blog please leave me a way to contact you should you win .
3.For a second entry ,post about  this on your blog.
4.And if you add my giveaway to your sidebar I 'll add your name one more
 time.
5.For another entry tell me a favorite summer time memory .
6.This is open only for the United States ,sorry but with shipping cost I felt this would be the best.
Once I reach the 50 followers goal I will have hubby pull out  a name. Good luck and hugs,Jen

So be sure to head on over there and check it out.  Jen

Happy Friday and a Thank you !

First of ,I want to apologize to Patti at Raspberry Lane  Primitives ,she sent me a gift a few days ago and I am late blogging about it. I want to send a big thank you out to Patti  ! She so kindly sent me some lemon balm to be able to make the Rhubarb Lemon Tea Bread  recipe that she shared recently on her blog. Not only did she send some to make the bread but she also added a couple of plants for my garden.I am so excited to know that soon I can go to my garden and harvest fresh lemon balm.Thank you so much Patti ,whenever I see the plants I will think of you.

This has been a crazy week here at the old homestead , I think I have met myself a time or two while running around in circles . I hope you all have gotten more accomplished than I have been able to get finished.LOL! Oh well the world is still on its axis so I guess everything is okay.

I have been having problems with something catching and killing my chickens this week.It got one the first nig
ht then three the second night and last night we caged the rest up and set the cage next to momma's house thinking that would be a safe place for them.Momma was woken up at midnight by the chickens screeching ,something had tried to grab them through the door of the cage.So I am thinking a raccoon or a large stray cat.I will be setting traps tonight.

I just wanted to pop in and let you know I am still around ,just had a crazy week .I have managed to tangle with poison ivy once again and have to tell you that the ivy has won this round. My face on the right side is swollen and the right eye is swollen shut ,the left side of my face and eye are beginning to swell and I have it between my fingers . Ouch ! So if I fail to comment on your wonderful blogs that ill be the reason .I love to visit each of you and will do my best to stay up with your blogs in the next few days.

I will be posting a giveaway later on today hopefully so please check back . Have a great awesome weekend!Hugs,Jen

A few garden pics

Wow can you believe that it is already June ?  It is hot and muggy here in good old Kentucky this morning .I  thought I'd share a few pics of some my flowers and things .I really need to get out and weed and get the beds mulched, with all the rain I am behind big time. I have a few beds that I am just getting started so they aren't in the best shape yet,so please overlook the weeds and stuff .

This is stump is from an old apple tree that stood in my parents yard for years.
Tabby ,my shadow when I am working outside .
Love the color of these .

My first day lily bloom of  the season.

Hope you enjoy a glimpse of my yard. While the gardens need weeding and lots of work who can help but admire the beauty God had given us.I found out last night that most of my flowers will have to be moved as we have a drainage problem and have quite a bit of water standing under our home. Just as they are starting to take off I will have to dig them up and hope that it doesn't kill them .I guess a few dead plants is better than  having to replace all the floors in the house. Still isn't  a good feeling .

Hope to do a few makeovers in the next few days and will be back to share them with you all . I am going to be outside much of the day in search of a baby rabbit.Something opened my Netherland Dwarf cage door and I had three babies missing this morning. Thankfully I have managed to find two of the three so far. They are only four weeks old so it still needs it's momma. Many blessings ,Jen
